"Are you asian? Cus I'm Chin-a get on you!"

You won't believe some of the things I've had shouted, catcalled, yelled and just thrown in my face before.

"Your legs look tasty, just like a pair of golden spring rolls!"
"Do you want to come home with me and practise some Kung Fu moves in bed?"
"Yee-haw cowgirl! Where are you trotting off to today my love?"
"Would you like a taste of my sweet and sour chicken balls?"
"They don't make them like you back in Thailand!"
(Yep, sadly, all of them have happened...)
Some of them have been just plain racist. Some have been pure sexual and gross. Most of them inaccurate. Many of them just don't make any sense.
But all of them, are not ok!
This is not me bragging about getting attention - I'm perfectly happy and confident in myself, but on the other hand, I'm also not a leggy Victoria Secrets angel strutting down the street, you know what I mean? I'm just going about my day y'all.
This is me just sick of this happening. And the worst thing is, when you talk about it, there are those people who just DON'T get it and will no doubt say 'Oh, but they're just trying paying you a compliment! It's nice! Stop being such a whiny cow about it!'
It's almost like if you're a female, and you take the courage to speak out about something you feel uncomfortable about, you're labelled a mardy, feminist, bitch.
First of all, comments like that aren't a compliment!
You have nice eyes, I really like how passionate you are about your career, that bag is amazing ,  you're make me proper LOL, I really like spending time with you - THOSE are compliments!
Second of all, these are strangers. I don't know you from Adam mate - what do you expect to happen when you shout comments like that to people? That they'll think 'my god, that's what I've always wanted to hear! Please let's go on a date so I can hear more and we can talk about how we're going to spend our lives together' No. Nop. Big bag of nop. Not gonna happen now is it?

If you were with your girlfriend, sister, daughter or female friend and someone shouted something like that to them down the street, you wouldn't be OK with it would you?
But you see, the thing is, you'd never see that happening because sadly, it only happens really happens when they're not with any guys or if you're alone. Cowards.
Instances like this, I like to stand up for myself. I like to tell people that, 'Dya know what? I don't feel ok with that and it made me a bit uncomfortable' and hope that they maybe even realise why and think twice about doing it in the future.
But it's sad when you end up have to pick and choose which battles you're gonna stick up for yourself, because you simply don't have the energy to tackle them all.

I've honestly been too intimidated to walk past a bunch of lads shouting stuff at me before, so have crossed the road or gone a different way. That's what it comes down to.

And there is no reason on earth I, or any other girl or person, should ever have to feel like that.

So, can we just not please?

Until next time,
A.x

Week by Numbers: Flowers & fangirl-ing

Praise the lord, it's only been a flipping bank holiday! And you know what that means right? A whole extra day of weekend to fill up with fun and frolics - BLISS.

1.) My best friend, sadly left where we work together to move onto bigger and better things (because she's brilliant like that), and what better send-off to have then go and have a Q&A with The Hoff himself, filled with more than enough Hoff puns - 'Cool Hoff' bottles of water anyone? But even better, when you're 2 Parks & Rec loving NUTS like us 2, and you see Jean Ralphio sat in the screening event, and you lose your minds, and you go to talk to him, and he's lovely as heck, and it takes everything in your power to not sing right in his face while he takes a photo with you...well...night made right?

2.) One of the best things about the fact that I now earn a living - apart from the fact you know, I can afford to eat and live - is that I get to treat and spoil my nephew and nieces just like did for me. It may not be Barbie houses and Nike trainers yet. But just being able to buy some stickers and send them off inside a dinosaur card, and getting sent a photo of my nephew's beaming face when he opened it, well, it just warms up my fuzzy lil' heart.

3.) I love live music, and I have no idea why I don't spend more of my time and money on it, because whenever I do, I have THE best time! Recently, I got some last-minute tickets to go see Brandon Flowers with my childhood besties. We both listened to The Killers to death when we were in high school together, and to have a couple of beers and jump around together to his amazing new stuff, AND Mr.Brightside, was amazing and oddly poetic in a way. Not only that, but Chrissy Hydne from The Pretenders made a surprise appearance and sang one of my fave songs, Don't Get Me Wrong, with Mr.Flowers, just made my absolute life.

4.) It was Bank Holiday - hurrah! Which means an extra day to catch up on sleep and chill out, and if gin just happens to be involved in the plans, then so be it...

5.) My friend Hannah and I planned a whole day out this bank holiday weekend, which kicked off with afternoon tea at Sketch. You know the day's going to be good when that's how it starts right? We've both wanted to try it out for a while, but as a pretty special place to go, it's not somewhere you go on a whim on your lunch break, y'know? So we went, sat in a haven of pink and lights (I think I was in heaven), gorged on unlimited tea, dainty sandwiches and sugary treats that made us go all in a giggly tizzy. But the unique thing? The toilets are egg pods. Yep. You heard me right. Egg-shaped pods that you pee in. Just let that sink in for a bit...

6.) After our afternoon tea, we had a little mooch around Kensington before finally getting round to seeing the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition at The V&A. Even if you're not a follower of fashion, or could care less about it, you need to go. So often, I feel that he's remembered as a brand that's known for shock value, when he was actually a beautiful, intelligent, creative and emotional human being, who pushed the boundaries of what is considered as beauty. It was genuinely one of the best curated exhibitions I've ever been to - it touched all the senses, the settings were out of this world, and it was surprisingly touching. Go. NOW.

7.) Flat hunting is stressful and time-consuming enough at the best of times, but when you're in London. Oh lordy, is it 10x worse with added heart-breaking exspenses. Here's how things usually happen: 'OMG. I've found the flat of my dreams! Oh it's out of my price range. And is a 45283490 minute commute to work. And it's not gone...'Wish me luck guys.

"Cancelling. AGAIN?! C'mon dude - this is getting old now."
"Why do adults not have half term?"
"Oh hi Wes Anderson-eque bumbling dude on the tube. Want to run off into a sunset together?"

Being off for an extra day for a 4-day bank holiday weekend, made me feel like I was on half term, and apparently forget how to dress like an adult as I roll up into work with a Barbie crop top on. Well done 23-year-old Amy.

Stay happy!
Until next time...

Week by Numbers: Czech-ing out Prague

1.) As mentioned before, I want to use my money on more experiences, and less material things, and having not gone abroad for a few years - cus of being a skint student and the like - I still believe that exploring and opening your eyes to different parts of the world, is one of the bet ways to enrich yourself with your riches. So, off to Prague I went for the weekend. I was faced with beautiful buildings covered in pastels and gold (be still my beating heart!), great beer, vats of hot chocolate laced with Baileys, and miles of walking. I mean, we hiked all the way up to a blooming castle - that's my kind of holiday!

2.) After watching an episode here and there, I took the plunge and watched Parks and Recreation from start to finish, and got completely swept up in all the heartwarming characters, each more weird that the last. And this is one of my favourite scenes, and this unconditional and stupid friendship reminds me exactly of my best friends and I.

3.) Speaking of Parks and Rec, as if my love for Chris Pratt wasn't enough, (though in my heart-of-hearts, he'll always be Che from The O.C in my mind), after watching him photobomb with Jimmy Fallon and Captain America himself, I just want to grab a milkshake and play arcade games with these dudes.

4.) Oh, and on the subject of the Super Bowl, can we just talk about the fact that Katy Perry rocked in on a giant golden lion, brought Missy Elliot back into our lives, and then exited on a flipping shooting star?! I love Katy Perry for all her pop princess goodness, and I don't care who knows it - you keep doing you girl.

5.) I managed to win a couple of £££ from the lottery on the rarity that I decide to buy a ticket which is a nice perk to the week - keep the luck coming!

6.) I worshipped Skins when I was a teenager, and I've found myself dipping back into them. The fashion which I once loved and the life that I once desperately wanted, I now watch back cringing at bits and feeling tear-y and nostalgic at others. (Chris 4evz).

7.) In keeping with trying to use my DSLR more and have a nicer document of my memories, and inspired by Jack Howard's monthly PMS (not what you think - pretentious monthly scrapbook), I've decided to make a lil' round-up video of each month. Nothing snazzy, but I'm happy with how it turned out, and if you want to watch shots of my feet and the M6, then here you go!

"Omg I love Andy Dwyer. Where can I get my own?"
"OMG I LOVE BEN WYATT. I love Ben and Leslie and where can I sign up to be in that in my very own Ben and Leslie?"
"No. I'm not from China/Japan/Korea. I flew in from England. No I'm not lying to you..."

Going on holiday to somewhere where it's -2 degrees means multiple of layers and making friends with polo-necks is a massive plus. Now, I can hear you screaming that I'm mad for wearing a bloomin' skirt of that length in the freezing cold, but FEAR NOT! I've got super-warm, fleecy leggings on (which every woman should own FYI). And what else do you need in the cold weather? Your sunnies and your wrestler belt of course.
