Met Gala 2015

It's that time of the year again when the A-list's finest put on their glad-rags and make it to the fashion event with a capital 'F'.

We're talking men looking dapper in suits, and ladies looking glam in full length gowns, with a some pretty epic headgear and bold sheer material thrown in there for good measure.

I know you've probably seen enough photos of the Met Ball to last you a lifetime (believe me, I spent 2 days at work writing about it), but in case you missed it, here's the highs and the oh-so-lows...

 

First of all, Sarah Jessica Parker - just...WOW. I know the theme was China: Through the looking glass, and you're all Sex and the City. But, I think looking like a Chinese emperor from centuries past is a bit overboard, but, that's just me.

 

Oh Anne Hathaway. The new Star Wars film is very exiting for everyone, but maybe a film marathon would've been enough? That being said though, at least you're prepared for any rain that may come your way and if anyone's going to look good in a metallic gold hood, it's gonna be you babes.
And it was May the 4th, so pretty apt for Star Wars day and all. 

We've all seen the memes of Rihanna as an omlette - my personal fave is her in frying pan while SJP provides the heat.

But have you actually seen how beautiful she actually looks behind the eggy internet sensation?!

While Rihanna seemed to be wearing all the material in the world, a lot of the stars seemed to be wearing hardly any at all. 

J.Lo, Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé: I'm looking at you. (Also, is it just me who's also getting a Britney Spears - Toxic kinda vibe from all these see-through sparkles?)

THAT pose from Bey though. Ouff. And her high ponytail is basically how I pile my hair on top of my head at the end of the day, but I don't look anywhere near a fierce. Dammit.

 

With slightly bit material, and a whole load more ink on her body, was Cara Delevigne. Can someone come paint flowers on me everyday too please?

 

Sheer was clearly a theme, and Diane Kruger NAILED it with sheer, lace trousers, complete with a tassel of gathered material. Who knew eh?

Chloe Moretz and Zendaya were both pretty princesses, with Chloe going for more an American beauty and sleek look, and Zendaya looking like a royal warrior of the sun. But what I love most? They both looked fierce while still dressing for someone their age. Love, love, love.

And although some people might have taken the theme too literally - ehem, SJP - others absolutely got it beautifully spot on.

Helen Mirren, Gigi Hadid and Amal Clooney all went in oriental red - from long sleeves and lacy to deep plunge and high slits. And also, props to Josh from Grazia for his comparison to Amal as the flamenco dancing girl emoji. YES.

Adding some fierce gold, cut out sections and major flower power was Karen Elson, Jennifer Lawrence and Poppy Delevigne.

While Emily Blunt, Kate Hudson and Sienna Miller all has a different and fierce take on the theme. Traditional cheongsam vibes complete with a cape? Tick. All gold trailing on the floor? Check. Red trouser suit with open blazer and a black obi belt with tassels? HELL YES.

The Met Ball, you've been a pleasure to look at and dissect, as always, and 2015 was definitely a year to remember.

Oscar de la Renta

Yesterday, Ocar de la Renta died at the age of 82 after a long battle with cancer.
And the world will be a little bit less glamorous for it.

Oscar de la Renta has been one of my favourite designers for as long as I can remember having any remote interest in fashion.

From fellow colleagues, models, artists, actors, musicians, and everyday folk like me, he was loved and admired by millions all over the world. 

So much so that Sarah Jessica Parker even got him to splash his name all over the his own design when she wore it to the MET ball earlier this year.

He bought a sense of old-fashioned glamour into a world of fast fashion.

His designs were dripping in style, and he always got the perfect balance of grace from a bygone era, and working that into a busy 21st century lifestyle - come rain or shine.

In a society where so many fashion shows that dons onto the catwalks, includes something to shock or be scandalous, it's so comforting to know that there's someone out there who's care and devotion is still on design, quality, and attention-to-detail.

This is especially true for me. For a girly girl through and through, who loves all things feminine and floral. 

A girl who thinks it's a bit of a shame that people don't dress to the nines anymore, and lusts after the dresses when I watch Mad Men. 

To me, Oscar de la Renta was like a orchid in the midst of a field.

Oscar de la Renta pieces were simply femininity and elegance personified.  

And I think he emphasised the female form so much, because he himself admired it so.

He injected so much beauty throughout living his very full life. And always did it with a smile.

He was one of a kind, and will be sorely missed.

Met Ball: top hat & tails

This week saw the yearly return of the Met Ball, and the web was bombarded with photos of beautiful dresses that put Disney Princesses to shame.

The Met Ball is a annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, and every year there's a dress code and theme, and every year, I get completely bowled over by how amazing and beautiful everyone looks in their gladrags.

I love the Met Ball - it the one night that everyone has that old-school Hollywood glamour, especially now, when the world is filled with quick Instagram snaps and tweets that share your opinion with the world before they're fully formed in your mind.

These were some of my personal favourites, that make me wish I could wear long, trailing, beautiful dresses everyday, which wouldn't be inconvenient at all....

Chanel Iman and Lea Michele both wore silky and slinky metallic numbers that looked like liquid wrapping around their body, and Jordan Dunn was a ray of sunshine in her deep cut frock....

...Emma Stone and Joan Smalls brought a fresh vibe to the event, while still looking tip-top,with sporty crop tops, fushia tones, blue lips, and braids that Rapunzel would be envious of. Georgia May Jagger upped everyone's heart rates with her sultry take on a tux. And Cara Delevinge took the rule book, and made them her own, n her sexy and smart black and white two-piece...

...Kylie and Chloe Moretz both looked angelic and pristine, with Kylie looking liked she was plucked out a line-up of Greek goddesses, and I love Chloe's addition of a long black tie. Kendall Jenner was a vision of champage dreams - this dress is just classic and timeless, the shape fit her perfctly, and it makes me so proud to know that it was made by the Birtish high-street! Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were the Barbie and Ken of the ball, and I love the train draping down from her shoulder, trailing behind her.

But the absolute belle of the ball for me, was Suki Waterhouse - look at that beauty! (and I'm not just talking about the dress!) She looked like an absolute pristine princess, encased within tiers, upon tiers of ruffles and frills.
